When energy is stored in something and released during a chemical reaction such as burning wood, coal, or oil it is Chemical Energy. So if plants could make a chemical and store it, they could hold the Sun's energy which is exactly what plants do.

 

The process is called Photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is when plants make food for themselves from sunlight and the chemicals H2O, or water, and CO2, or carbon dioxide.

 

What's even more amazing is they actually take carbon dioxide, which is the poisonous gas that comes out of cars, and make O2, or oxygen for everything on Earth to live!

 

So the next time you look at a tree or a plant thank it, because you are alive because of it. But they won't care. Mostly because plants and trees do not have ears and can't hear you, but also because the plants and trees grow from the carbon dioxide they take from our air to store energy.
